About the authors

Barbara Drieskens is an anthropologist, writer, dancer, taiji instructor and researcher. She has lived and worked in Lebanon since 2003 and has a PhD in Social and Cultural Anthropology. She has published several books, among them, ‘Living with Djinns’ (Saqi Books, 2008).

Aline Kamakian is Lebanese from Armenian origin. In 2003 she opened Mayrig restaurant in Beirut together with her cousin, realizing her childhood dream. Through her cuisine, she does not only share the delicious tastes of her childhood and the family recipes, but also wants to tell something about the Armenians, their origin, their history and their culinary trajectories.
